Symptoms of Transverse Myelitis from Vaccine

Transverse myelitis can be a particularly devastating illness caused by vaccine administration. Thankfully it is a relatively rare condition, but some people can have an inflammatory reaction to vaccines that causes the immune system to attack their own body. With transverse myelitis, the body attacks the myelin covering that surrounds the nerves, which causes them to lose function.

Symptoms of transverse myelitis can include:

  • Pain in the lower back and pain that shoots down your legs or arms or around your chest or abdomen

  • Abnormal sensations such as numbness, tingling, coldness, burning, or sensitivity to touch and temperature.

  • Weakness in the arms or legs, or even total paralysis

  • Bladder and bowel problems, including urinary incontinence, difficulty urinating, and constipation.

Transverse myelitis is not a specific injury listed in the Vaccine Injury Table. But this does not mean there is no possibility of compensation from the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. So long as there is credible evidence that ties the onset of transverse myelitis to one of the vaccines covered by the program, an experienced vaccine injury attorney can help draft a petition to the United States Court of Federal Claims to get you compensation for your injury.

The onset of transverse myelitis has been associated with the following vaccines:

  • Diphtheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis (“DTaP”) Vaccine

  • Measles, Mumps and Rubella (“MMR”) Vaccine

  • Hepatitis B (“Hep B”) Vaccine

  • Influenza (“Flu”) Vaccine

  • Human Papillomavirus (“HPV”) Vaccine

  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, Acellular Pertussis (“Tdap”) Vaccine

  • Meningococcal Vaccine

If you have experienced any of the symptoms listed above after the administration of these vaccines, give our team of vaccine injury lawyers a call so we can evaluate your claim.
